Spirit Work Intensive

A four week intensive exploring the in's and out's of understanding, identifying & interacting with the countless spirits which surround us.

Join us as we make sense of the world of spirit and how we as humans are able to communicate and interact with it by examining specific examples, historical examples and working models. Learn how to identify various classes of spirits and both the theory and techniques involved in establishing relationships with your own personal court of spirits.

Week I

We will work through the basics of Spirit Work: what we consider spirits and spirit work, the building blocks of religion, a basic primer on the various types of spirits, the steps one may take in order to begin working with spirits, divination, offerings & petitions, relationship dynamics, possession, etc. as well as all of the boundaries, restrictions and words of caution one must keep in mind.

Week II

We will begin to delve into the various classes of spirits witches most often encounter. None of these is more central to the various religions, practices and beliefs of the world than the recognition of the Ancestors and the Spirits of the Dead. We will delve into the intricacies and the art of speaking and working with the dead, establishing relationships and understanding the vital differences between our forebears and the greater dead.

Week III

In Week III, we will consider animism in its possible breadth and interpretations as we encounter the next classes of spirits, specifically animal and plant spirits and how their existence, as well as interaction with them forms the backbone of most magikal practices as well as the underpinning of many a witch's cosmology.

Week IV

In Week IV, we will study the most legendary, as well as the most misunderstood, classes of spirits, ranging from deities to household spirits, the familiar and tutelary spirits, as well as many non-human spirits in their myriad forms. It is in accessing and dealing with these spirits through which many find meaning, as well as power, in their personal practice. However it is also at this point that some of the biggest and most difficult questions arise, and we will meet each one equitably and respectfully.

Throughout this course we will maintain a focus on how one may go about discovering, recognizing and establishing their own personal court of spirits which is individual to each of us and with which we can build both meaningful and productive working relationships. We hope you'll join us for it.
